A Slash of Colour

Ok well this one is a bit of a do something and see how it turns out.  I had a technique in mind but it didn't really turn out how I planned.  So I ad-libbed a little to get the background effect, 2 strokes up and 2 down.  The slash effect actually is trickier then it seems, distance it s key.  Hey presto!  I actually like this one, but might be going to the markets as I want a bigger version!

Peril - Painting on the high seas.

So it my Dad's Birthday today and I decided to paint him something with my new found talent. I wanted to do something where I could capture the mood of the scene. I set about and created this piece and gave it to him today. He loved it!

'Peril'

I tried out a few thing for the waves and settled on a sponge. I think i'll work on this process as I think a sponge has more to offer.  I am happy with the over all result however.   The clouds I ended up painting with brush and finger for blending which I think proved some depth.  And the final trick I tried was watering down black and using a fine brush to get the rain effect.  Over all I use a heap of techniques I've never done before and I am happy with my results.

Birth of an Artist

Well here is my First Abstract, and first painting done under the hand of DarkHero.  Inspired by a Phonenix I decided to try my hand at a palette knife and I came up with this.

Proving a point!

Hi again,

So this was my second painting.  I did this one really to prove a point.  I was told by someone who had seen my first ever painting that I didn't really paint it because I used trace guide lines for the main structure.

So I decided to walk out to my garden and photograph a Bird of Paradise (my wife loves them) and paint one for her.....Free hand.  So with phone in hand I went about producing my first free hand painting.

Here it is:

You may note this one is also done under my hand, the last one before I took on my art sig.

In the beginning!

Well Hi,

Thought I should kick this blog thing off.  My awesome wife Shan got me into this blogging thing... by the way check her brilliant jewelry creations out at Inishkea.

I have always had a bit of a hidden desire to do more art type stuff.  I have tried various things throughout my life but never really painting in the traditional sense...on canvas.  About a month ago I decided to get a comic print of Captain America (Marvel Fan!) to put on the wall.  I could have asked a mate who is a great sign writer to do it when I had this silly plan to just attempt to paint it myself.

So I got a few acrylic paint and a canvas, printed my favourite 'Cap' comic frame and traced it to canvas.   The rest is history really.  I painted the main black line work on the canvas and then coloured the rest with some shading and finally painted back over the line work.

Once I finished I stood back and when 'HOLY COW...I painted something'!
I've kinda had the bug ever since.  So what you see here is my first ever canvas painting.  This one means a lot to me as it make a new creative path in my life and who better to do it with than Captain America.  Oh and this one is handed under my hand so may end up being rare! hehe I wish

So I've assembled my paints and my blog and I'm ready for the fun ride!

Cheers
